Random Seasonings – October 13th, 2008
This site continues to evolve – I’ve added a “Tailgating Steeplechase Style” page highlighting the best of eight years of award winning tailgate parties in Lexington. Next year will be a “Party at Congo Square”, a New Orleans Mardi Gras themed extravaganza. More menu’s and recipes will be added over the next few weeks as I settle into a regular routine of updates.
Watched the premier episode of “The Chef Jeff Project” of the Food Network last night. For those who don’t know, Jeff Henderson was a drug dealer who did time, discovered his love for cooking, and became a successful chef. His reality program takes six at risk youths, most of whom have already had their brushes with the law, and offers them a chance at redemption in his kitchen at Urban Posh Catering. While I despise reality TV, I was intrigued enough by the chef’s backstory to tune in for at least one episode. While I can’t say the show is great, I want this guy to be real, I really do. Picked up the audiobook of his bestseller “Cooked” and plan on listening to it on the plane tomorrow while en route to Chicago.
The producers of Rachel Ray’s daytime talk show must really hate her, either that or they are criminally negligent for not doing a better job vetting her guests and their accompanying product demonstrations. If you haven’t seen the corn shucking video yet, do yourself a favor and google it or find it on You Tube. Try “Rachel Ray Corn Porn”, that should get it for you. Yes, it’s really that bad.
Michael Ruhlman’s blog cites a new term coming into vogue – gastrosexual. In spite of the fact I’ve been told by more than one person that I fit the description, I still think it sounds like someone who does something perverted with vegetables. The Windy City beckons, and a tapas dinner awaits my arrival tomorrow night. More updates forthcoming as the week progresses. Thanks to all who have taken time to read the posts and comment publicly or privately. Keep spreading the word.
