This may be a food blog, but like a good meal it doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Good eating and sports go hand in hand, and around here that means the athletes are horses as well as humans. Below are some of my pictures from the Cross Country Test at the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event. After spending a day at the Kentucky Horse Park watching this amazing competition, the thought of food is usually on everyone’s mind. You can work up a serious appetite walking the course throughout the morning and afternoon. As the day draws to a close, our attention usually starts to wander to where we’ll eat dinner. When the weather is like it’s been the last two years, that usually means one of the many locally owned restaurants in downtown Lexington, such as Bellini’s or Le Deauville, where the white cloth draped tables will be set up on the sidewalk and the wine (and bourbon!) will be flowing freely. For many of us, this event has become as much a part of life in the Bluegrass during the month of April each year as thoroughbred racing at Keeneland. In 2010, the site will be host to the FEI World Equestrian Games, and honor well deserved for everyone who has spent the last twenty years building the park into what it is today.
